OL Reign Down Under: Angelina

OL Reign midfielder Angelina and Brazil are set to begin their 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup campaign tomorrow at 4:00 a.m. PT against Panama. After joining OL Reign in 2021, Angelina has been called up to the Brazil Women’s National Team for her first-ever World Cup.

 

LEAGUE PLAY

Angelina joined OL Reign in 2021, signing just days into January. In her debut NWSL season, she appeared in 16 games, earning four starts and 474 minutes of playing time. She finished the season with 10 shots.

In 2022, she started in eight of six games regular season games played for the Reign. She tallied an assist in OL Reign’s second game of the season against Racing Louisville, marking her first-ever assist for the team. She had a standout NWSL Challenge Cup performance in 2022, scoring one goal and earning two assists for the Reign. In July, she suffered a season ending injury on international duty with Brazil.

This season, she has not yet made an appearance for the Reign, but was officially elevated from the Season Ending Injury list on June 9.

 

INTERNATIONAL

OL Reign midfielder Angelina has 20 caps with Brazil since making her debut during the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. In her career with Brazil, she has scored one goal. This is her first-ever World Cup.

The midfielder made three appearances during the Olympic Games in 2021, earning 183 minutes of playing time and registering three shots. In September 2021, Angelina was called up for Brazil once again, this time for a series of two friendly matches against Argentina. She scored her first career goal for Brazil in the 59th minute of Brazil’s September 17th match against Argentina to put Brazil up 3-0 in the match. Before the year was out, Angelina was called into one more friendly against Australia and closed out 2021 with three more appearances in the Torneio Internacional Feminino de Seleções.

In 2022, Angelina appeared in four friendly matches for Brazil, as well as two Turnoi de France matches and five Copa América Femenina matches for a total of 721 minutes, before sustaining her Season-Ending Injury with Brazil.
