OL Reign Re-Signs Defender Jimena López Through 2024, Joins Valencia on Loan

OL Reign today announced that it has re-signed defender Jimena López through the 2024 season. In conjunction with the end of her loan to UMF Selfoss in Iceland, the defender will join Valencia CF Femenino in Liga F, the top-tier women's football league in Spain, on loan through June 2024.

On loan with UMF Selfoss, López made 11 appearances and nine starts for the club and added one goal. Prior to going on loan, the defender appeared in nine regular season matches for the Reign across two seasons, including four starts. She also appeared in four Challenge Cup matches for OL Reign.

“We are excited for Jimena to continue her development at Valencia in La Liga, as it’s such a competitive environment and one that I think she will thrive in,” said OL Reign head coach Laura Harvey. “We’ll continue to evaluate her progression and growth throughout the year.”

Originally, the Mexico City native was selected by OL Reign with the 28th overall pick in the 2021 NWSL Draft but elected to start her professional career with Spanish side SD Eibar in the Spanish Primera División. After playing 16 matches with SD Eibar and contributing one goal for the club, López joined OL Reign in June 2021.
