Everything You Need to Know Ahead of OL Reign’s Quarterfinal Match

With a crucial 3-0 win over the Chicago Red Stars last Sunday, the Reign are set to take on Angel City FC in the NWSL Quarterfinal, at Lumen Field this Friday, October 20 at 7:00 p.m. PT. Tickets to the match are available HERE. Here’s everything you should know ahead of the match:

THE BASICS – A full breakdown of playoff rules can be found on the NWSL website, but the basics are simple – if you win your match, you advance to the next round of the playoffs. This weekend, two quarterfinal games are being played:

  • October 20 at 7:00 p.m. PT – OL Reign (4th seed) vs. Angel City FC (5th seed) at Lumen Field in Seattle, WA

  • October 22 at 4:00 p.m. PT – North Carolina courage (3rd seed) vs. NJ/NY Gotham FC (6th seed) at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, NC

The winner of each of these games will advance to the semifinals to play against San Diego Wave FC and Portland Thorns FC, respectively.

If the game is tied after regulation, it will go to two 15-minute periods of extra time. If the match is still tied, then extra time will be followed by kicks from the penalty mark.

ONE MORE TIME – OL Reign will be relying on their fans to pack Lumen Field one more time in 2023! This match will be club legend Megan Rapinoe’s final home match of her career, regardless of the result. In addition to an intense, must-win match, fans can enjoy other activities around Lumen Field before the match, including:

  • Music in the Muckleshoot Heritage Plaza from Zechariah & Jevon and Reign City Riot

  • Three food tricks in the Muckleshoot Heritage Plaza – Kathmandu MoMoCha, Seoul Bowl and Pie Bar

  • Inflatable games in the Muckleshoot Heritage Plaza and concourse

  • Other festive activities in the Muckleshoot Heritage Plaza include face painting, poster making, player cutouts for photo opportunities and more!

  • Commemorative photobooth in the NE concourse

  • National Anthem performance from Mary Lambert

Gates for this match will open at 5:30 p.m. PT.

ON THE PITCH – OL Reign and Angel City met four total times at Lumen Field in all competitions and OL Reign went undefeated in front of a home crowd. The Reign have a chance to extend that home win record to four matches with this upcoming semifinal.

Though this is OL Reign’s first time playing in a quarterfinal match, this is the fifth consecutive season that the team has made an appearance in the NWSL postseason and seventh season all-time. For the visitors, this is their very first playoff appearance. Among OL Reign's active roster, 11 players have scored against Angel City FC across all competitions. Forward Veronica Latsko, who finished the season tied for third on the team in goals scored (4), leads the all-time series in goals, with three.
