By the Numbers: 2023 Season Recap

From appearing in the NWSL Championship for the first time since 2015, to setting attendance records and recording player milestones, the 2023 season was one to remember for the Reign:

9 – OL Reign went unbeaten in 9 of 11 regular season home games this year, tied for the second best in the league. Since naming Lumen Field home at the start of the 2022 season, OL Reign has gone unbeaten in 19 of 22 games (12W, 7D). 

11 – OL Reign finished the 2023 season with 11 headed goals, the most in the league and four more than the next team. Forward Bethany Balcer had a league-best four headed goals this season, while forwards Jordyn Huitema and Veronica Latsko were tied for second in the league, with three. 

15 – OL Reign recorded 15 wins across all NWSL competitions, the most wins in the league in 2023. The Reign earned nine wins in the regular season, two in the playoffs and four during the UKG NWSL Challenge Cup. 

27 – Across all NWSL competitions this year, OL Reign recorded 27 total assists and finished with 15 players with at least one assist. Forward Megan Rapinoe led the team for a second consecutive year with five assists in the regular season.  

32 – OL Reign netted 32 goals throughout the 2023 NWSL season, ranking second overall. 15 goals were scored with the right foot, five with the left and 11 with the head. 27 of the goals were scored inside the box and the remaining five were scored from outside the box. 

126 – Forward Megan Rapinoe retired from professional soccer, closing out an 11-year career with the Reign. Across the NWSL regular season and playoffs all-time, Rapinoe tallied 126 appearances. The icon retires with the most regular season goals (51) and assists (26) in club history.   

200 – On June 10, captain/defender Lauren Barnes became the first player to reach 200 NWSL regular season games played, which resulted in a 2-1 win against the Kansas City Current. Barnes finished the season with 211 appearances all-time. 

7,628 – OL Reign completed over 7,600 passes throughout the season, earning a 74.5% success rate on short passes and 42.3% success rate on long passes. 

34,130 – In the Reign's final home game of 2023 regular season, which was also the Forever Reign: A Celebration of Megan Rapinoe match, a total of 34,130 fans attended, breaking the previous NWSL all-time attendance record of 32,000.
