Alyssa Kleiner Announces Her Retirement from Professional Soccer

Reign FC defender Alyssa Kleiner has announced her decision to retire from professional soccer.

“It’s been amazing to see my dream of playing professional soccer realized,” said Kleiner. “I’m thankful for my fans, coaches, staff, and teammates for their love and support throughout the years. This beautiful game will always hold a special place in my heart, but it is time to grow in other aspects. I’m excited for the next challenge that lies ahead of me!”

After graduating from Santa Clara in 2014, Kleiner began her NWSL career with the Portland Thorns in 2015. She was traded to the Washington Spirit prior to the 2016 season, where she played for two seasons before joining Reign FC for its 2018 campaign.

Kleiner played in ten matches with Reign FC, starting four, for a total of 414 minutes. She recorded 18 tackles and one block on a defense that set an NWSL record-tying 12 clean sheets.

“We thank Alyssa for the impact she had on Reign FC last season,” said head coach Vlatko Andonovski. “Her grit and determination will serve her well in life and I wish her all the best in what’s next to come.”
