Ten Reign FC Players Called Up for International Duty During Upcoming FIFA Break
Ten Reign FC players have been called up for international duty for the upcoming FIFA break.
Megan Rapinoe and Allie Long have been called into the U.S. Women’s National Team camp prior to the SheBelieves Cup, which kicks off on February 27 in Chester, Pa. The U.S. WNT enter the fourth annual SheBelieves Cup as the defending champions and will face off against Rumi Utsugi and Japan, Jodie Taylor and England, as well as the Brazilian Women’s National Team. All four teams will also be participating in this summer’s 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France.
Meanwhile, Theresa Nielsen (Denmark) and Celia Jiménez Delgado (Spain) will represent their countries in the upcoming Algarve Cup in Portugal.
The 2019 Algarve Cup will be the 26th edition of the annual invitational tournament held on the Southern coast of Portugal. The twelve invited teams will face off in a round robin tournament, split into four groups. Reign FC defender Celia Jiménez Delgado will represent Spain in Group B, where they’ll face off against the Netherlands on February 27 and Poland on March 1. Defender Theresa Nielsen and Denmark will battle Norway on February 27 and China PR on March 4, hoping advance to the top of Group C. The winner of the 2019 Algarve Cup will be crowned on March 6, 2019.
Lydia Williams, Steph Catley, and Elise Kellond-Knight will suit up for Australia in the inaugural FFA Cup of Nations. The four-team tournament will pit Australia against three other 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup-bound teams: No. 36 Argentina, No. 14 Korea Republic, and No. 19 New Zealand. The Matildas will begin play against New Zealand on February 28 at Jubilee Stadium in Kogarah (Sydney) before taking on Korean Republic at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, Queensland on March 3. Australia’s final test will come against Argentina on March 6 at AAMI Park in Melbourne.
Jess Fishlock and the Wales National Team will travel to Marbella, Spain for a pair of international friendlies against the Republic of Ireland on February 28 and March 5.
Reign FC players will begin reporting for preseason training in Tacoma, Washington on Monday, March 4, 2019, before being joined by their teammates away on international duty after the conclusion of the FIFA break. Reign FC will begin competitive preseason play against UCLA in Norco, Ca. on Saturday, March 16. Reign FC will then participate in the 2019 Thorns Spring Invitational, which begins with a match against the USA U-23 WNT on Sunday, March 24 at 11:30 a.m. PT on Portland, Or.
