Megan Rapinoe Nominated for 2019 Ballon D’Or

Reign FC forward Megan Rapinoe has been named to the 20-player shortlist for the 2019 Ballon D’Or. The award, presented by the magazine France Football, honors the best women’s player in the world.

Rapinoe was honored as the 2019 Best FIFA Women’s Player on September 23 in recognition for her achievements on and off the pitch. The forward also claimed the Golden Boot and Golden Ball at the 2019 Women’s World Cup as she helped the U.S. clinch its second straight title.

Rapinoe made five appearances for Reign FC in 2019, helping the club secure its second consecutive playoff berth and fourth overall in seven seasons.

Three other U.S. Women’s National Team players made the shortlist: Alex Morgan, Tobin Heath and Rose Lavelle.

The men’s Ballon D’Or has been presented by France Football since 1956. The magazine added a version to honor the women’s game starting in 2018, which they awarded to Norway’s Ada Hegerberg. The winners will be announced at a ceremony in Paris on Monday, December 2.
